We checked in with Jade Richardson-Gage of Engaged Bridal Studio as she celebrated a top industry award just two years after launching her business. We talked to her about finding a business niche, delivering a personalised service and gaining the trust of brides-to-be.
Jade Richardson-Gage first opened the doors to Engaged Bridal Studio back in November 2023 as the wedding industry was re-establishing itself after the Covid-19 pandemic. And in just two years she’s not only extended her opening hours but also garnered recognition in the form of a commendation at the regional finals of The Wedding Industry Awards (TWIA).
Nominated in the “Bridal Retailer (est. Less than four years)” category for the North East and Yorkshire, Jade was assessed by an expert judging panel who surveyed Jade’s customers to establish her credentials. She says,
“This award means the world to me because it shows that brides have spoken highly of the business and have supported me by sharing positive experiences.
“Working in the wedding industry is all about building trust and a reputation so I couldn’t be happier that Engaged Bridal Studio has been recognised in this way.”
Asked how her business has changed since she first launched in 2023, Jade says,
“I’ve been able to dedicate myself to the studio full time due to the success of the business. When I first opened the doors I was still teaching but, as the business has gone from strength to strength, I’ve been able to move into this full time.
“Stepping into self-employment and removing that safety net was daunting at first but I’m so glad I’ve done it and managed to make a success of those challenging first couple of years in business.”
In setting up Engaged Bridal Studio, Jade was helped by TEDCO Business Support through the Start Up South Tyneside programme, developing a business plan and putting in place the foundations for a healthy organisation. Jade says,
“The business model I developed back in 2023 has stayed largely the same. Taking the time to establish that niche as an “off the peg” wedding dress studio and providing a private, personalised service was critical. It’s still at the heart of the business today and I don’t see that changing.
“I have, however, evolved the business in ways I hadn’t predicted. For example, I’ve now launched a premium range featuring high-end designers that has come about due to market feedback.”
