When you think about starting a business, you don’t always expect it to begin with noticing itchy eyes and blocked noses – but for Daniel Wells, that’s not far off.

After years working in occupational health and safety, Daniel knew how much of a difference clean air could make. He also knew that it’s something people often overlook—especially at home.

“I’d be chatting to people about headaches, allergies, poor sleep—and so often it comes back to air quality,” he says. “It was clear there was a gap. People are living with this every day, but they don’t always realise they could do something about it.”

The idea for Luno Hygiene was born.

From an Idea to a Business

Setting up the business was a big step. Daniel had the knowledge, but creating a business was completely new territory.

“My biggest concern about this was the uncertainty, not just financially, but also in terms of building something from the ground up. In a traditional job, there’s a level of security, but when you go alone, everything depends on you.”

“I also knew that while I had a strong background in occupational health and safety, running a business would come with challenges outside my expertise. But my goal of helping people by improving indoor air quality far outweighed the challenge. I reminded myself that every successful business starts somewhere, and as long as I stayed committed, I could navigate the challenges along the way.”

That’s where TEDCO came in.

“TEDCO’s support has been invaluable, especially in refining my business model and planning my next steps. Their expert advice gave me the confidence to move forward. The guidance on funding was particularly useful. Having access to such a supportive business community makes a real difference.”

Helping People Feel Better at Home

While Daniel can support businesses with their air quality, his real focus now is helping people improve their home environments—especially as the seasons change.

“Spring hits and suddenly pollen’s in the air, windows are open, pets are shedding—all the things that can make allergies worse,” he explains. “People think feeling rough this time of year is normal, but it doesn’t have to be.”

Through Luno Hygiene, Daniel recommends and supplies high-quality air purifiers that help with: hay fever and pollen allergies; pet dander; mould spores and damp smells; dust and general air freshness

“I work at helping people breathe better, sleep better, and feel more comfortable in their own homes.”

One of the things that sets Daniel apart is his straightforward, friendly approach. There’s no pushy sales talk or jargon—just a genuine desire to help.

His TEDCO business advisor, Allison Nicks, was particularly impressed with Daniel’s drive and commitment:

“Daniel has been a pleasure to support. His commitment to improving air quality and creating healthier spaces is clear, and his dedication to making a difference shines through in his business. It’s been fantastic to see Luno Hygiene grow, and I have no doubt it will continue to thrive.”

If you want to know more about how you can get some relief, Daniel suggests popping onto his website https://luno-hygiene.com/ – where you’ll find more information about the choice of air purifiers.

Daniel also working on a blog to share more about the health benefits of clean air—including how it can support better sleep and ease allergy symptoms. Watch out for that coming to the TEDCO website soon.
